Back in the Air Again

posted in Housekeeping, Urban areas |

In a trip sponsored by the Kansas Chapter of Americans for Prosperity, the Antiplanner is speaking tonight at the Bank of America Center in Wichita, a city that is just discovering the wonders and costs of modern urban planning. I’ll be speaking to some groups there Friday as well.

If you are in the area, you can find more information here. I look forward to seeing you there.

    [Begin sarcastic questions]

    Wichita not “livable” enough?

Does someone want to force Wichita residents to adopt the “carfree” lifestyle?

Does Wichita need a few light rail lines to provide congestion relief?

    [End sarcastic questions]

It is very satisfying to me to see the Antiplanner so much in demand. Everywhere I go, I see your books, your editorials, your face on television… it must be very frustrating to your opposition, most of whom can hope for attention only by sneering at you in the comments of your own blog!

I noticed the linked article spoke about companies that are waiting to move downtown but can’t because there isn’t a plan in place. It would be more accurate to say they want to move downtown but are waiting to see how much money they can take from taxpayers for doing so.

    davek,

It is, I think, a perfect application of the concept of “a marketplace of ideas.” If the AP was as far off-base as certain commenters here believe, nobody would be interested in hearing what he has to say. Since the opposite is occuring, his detractors seek instead to silence him, rather than letting what they claim are stillborn ideas wither naturally in the social discourse. What they hope to conceal is that those ideas are flourishing on their own merit, and that those ideas put the lie to the cradle-to-grave statist ideology.

It’s a shame that the statists don’t explore more knowledge.
There is a wealth of knowledge available, which the Huff Post & Daily Kos types avoid, yet refer to a few points, taken out of context.

Here are just a few, of many:
    http://www.townhall.com/
    http://www.newsmax.com/index.html
    http://www.mises.org/
    http://www.libertyunbound.com/
    http://www.heritage.org/
    http://www.heartland.org/
    http://fee.org/

For those big gov planners & observers (those not in the field, directly), albeit dwellers (ie all but rural)–Perhaps more knowledge will help.
Hey, let’s get rid of crony capitalism, which includes TIFs.

Randall has links to the right too.
Do those who have objections explore those?
    Sure you might disagree.
Can you you offer valid counter-viewpoints, without insults & fallacies?

I would not consider either Newsmax or the Heritage Foundation, to cite just two examples off the top of my head, to be unbiased, credible sources.

THWM: I’m a non-paid civic activist fighting bad government mostly on a local level.

On the other hand O’Toole is a highway lobbyist & gets funding from big oil + auto makers to gallivant around the world, as to tell people that railroads & mass transit are “bad” things.

In a nut shell, O’Toole, Cox, Rubin, etc. are paid political arsonists.

So that pretty much makes me & many others, a vigilant volunteer civic firefighter.

I don’t expect you guys to give a shit, you just want corporate welfare cheques for oil & auto interests.

I like how quaint the “free market solution” thing sounds on the AFP website. I almost expect to find in attendance men with porkchop sideburns and women in scarves and floor-length dresses, eyes cast perpetually downward.

But I guess it’s good to revisit questions already answered to see if things are still the same.

What a bunch of crappy comments.

Here is a hint for Dan and his allies. You might have a shadow of credibility if you didn’t jump on the Antiplanner, on his own website, when he just says where he has a speaking engagement.

Dan, there’s no such thing as a “free market”.

Though it is an interesting concept, much like a “free lunch”.

Nice projection there, Dan. Ain’t no hate like liberal hate. BTW, where have you been lately? Finally get reprimanded by your government boss for spending your entire day and all that taxpayer money posting comments on blogs instead of working?

Ah. I can’t place a comment in the open comments of a blog, because instead I should purchase a ticket and fly to someplace I have no need to be to personally speak to someone.

    Sure. That makes sense. Yup.

Are you a travel agent, Andy? In the employ of an airline?
