Trying to inform about why there is congestion?
And why the wrong approach is being taken?
    Teaching people about cost-benefit analysis?
Explaining liberty, free enterprise, price-cost mechanism, supply & demand, etc.?

It’s sad how those who are either: on the left, anti-business, pro-big gov or pro-redistribution, do not want to learn.

Enjoy your [brief] visits in my home cities of [in order of my personal residence history] Dallas, Oklahoma City, and Austin.

  3. Dan says:

That’s too bad Cato’s agent didn’t give you a little more time to enjoy the sights. Give the man a day in a city in the middle, esp NOLA or somewhere with culture, like DFW or HOU! sheesh. Esp with some of these second-tier events and small audiences.

And that is how Dan spells “J-E-A-L-O-U-S-Y”.

  5. Scott says:

A speaker, going to different places, to inform people about issues & concepts, would probably enjoy more time for tourism.

Hey, if the case were public officials, funded by taxpayers…
that would include lavish accommodations & many extra days.

There are people everywhere who like learning.

I want to re-state to the performance artist/screenwriter testing parody characters on this site – esp the ones that are a mixture of Cliff Clavin and Archie Bunker – you are high-larryiss. If I may, the dim-bulb-with-mancrush character in that last skit @4 was a little out of typical, and if you are nailed down with the parody character, its response in the past was a couple grades lower, and likely would have mentioned something about how planners don’t like Houston or Tulsa or planners killed NOLA. Just an observation. Keep up the funny work on this site!

    TIA for the next skit.

  7. Andy says:

Dan, please tell us more “about how planners don’t like Houston or Tulsa or planners killed NOLA.”
    [This stuff just writes itself!]

  8. Dan says:

That’s a guy performance artist/screenwriter/comic/author. Women don’t write characters that way.

And that was good punk’n. This is a TV character you’re developing isn’t it? Parks & Rec? Big Bang? Something on SHO?

  9. Scott says:

Yeah right! These urban issues have so much to do with Cheers, All in the Family, guy-love (sounds disgusting, but that’s Dan dreaming), misspellings, laughing, characters, grading, performing, ad nauseam.

Makes so much sense, to dissuade one from any thought, & to agree with whatever.

  10. the highwayman says:

Who cares, Koch Oil is paying for this blog anyways. lol

  11. Scott says:

So, there’s no need to have concern because of a certain business? Hmmm. Interesting.
Well, in that case, since you say, anybody who gets products or services from any of the type of materials that Koch Industries deals with,
commodities trading, petroleum, chemicals, energy, fiber, intermediates and polymers, minerals, fertilizers, pulp and paper, chemical technology equipment, ranching,

should agree with “this blog” & not care. Right?
Hey, that’s 100% of US citizens that deal with anything derived from those categories.

However, please explain the relevance or connection, specifically.
Is there a shortage of demand for products coming from those categories?
Does one lifestyle or type of construction or transportation lead to more or less of certain types of products coming from any of those categories or business in general?

  12. Scott says:

How is the US going to be soon, because of lefty, statist, redistribution, policies?
California is ahead in leftism, denying property rights & confiscating wealth & it’s 12.2% unemployment. No new drilling, no new nuclear (since 70s), but still need energy.
    Even worse, look at Detroit.
It’s 13 minutes. That could be taxing on some brains, to pay attention to something educational for that long, but it’s interesting & done in an entertaining way. (other informative & funny videos)
Who would’a thought that punishing success & rewarding bad decisions has negative results?

Test yourself. If you don’t watch, then you really don’t care about cities & improving anything. It helps to see how declining cities have failed.
Is there a direct correlation, with causation on cities with high poverty rates & low HS grad rates, high crime rates & Democratic mayors?

  13. the highwayman says:

So, Bush sought to limit offshore drilling while in office.

  14. bennett says:

    ROT,

Will you be stopping in Austin? There is so much good antiplanning material in this town, and I would love to shake your hand.

    Hrailman,
Typing error, again. Comment has no relevance to thread & is false.

Do you have any interest in addressing the points & attempting to answer the questions brought up?
Or just leave it at your position having been destroyed again?

  16. bennett says:

    Scott,

    Watched your video. Interesting.

As for your question “Is there a direct correlation, with causation on cities with high poverty rates & low HS grad rates, high crime rates & Democratic mayors?”

I don’t think so. Show me a major US city that hasn’t had an overwhelmingly democratic mayoral leadership (I’m sure there is at least a couple). In fact your beloved Houston usually has a democrat mayor and now that Bill White is running for Gov, Houston is the largest city in the nation to have openly gay mayor.

What about state leadership? Texas (red state) has one of the worst educational systems, high crime rates (in particular violent crime), high teen pregnancy rates, more people without medical insurance than any other, low quality of life index, etc, etc, etc. But hey, we got the free market errr jobs.
