In December, 1999, Chip's sister--who was still living with Anna--had a litter of puppies. Two months later, Buffy--named after the heroine of our favorite television show--joined our family.
Buffy is a sweet and beautiful dog, but her personality is completely different from Chip's. Where Chip was our ambassador, Buffy, like her namesake, considered herself our protector, which meant she barked a lot more.
She was also a lot more hyper than Chip, rarely willing to stand still long enough for a photo, much less two or three (as here at Blacklock Point).
For the brief moments she would hold still, she and Chip were a photogenic pair. Female Tervs are only about 50 pounds, compared with 65 to 70 for males.
I once estimated Chip had a top speed of about 25 mph, but Buffy was even faster.
The two of them pose on a log with Mt. Jefferson in the background on the Jefferson Lake Trail.
Now we are on the Brush Creek Trail, also in the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness.
A little further along the Brush Creek Trail.
In February 2008, when Chip was 14-1/2, we moved to central Oregon, just a few minutes from the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness. Chip was 15-1/2 and Buffy 10 when they posed here with Mt. Washington, Black Butte, Mt. Jefferson, and a tiny Mt. Hood in the background. (Our house is close to Black Butte.)
