Great to be able to edit [once it starts], for mistakes noticed on a re-re-read & to add further comments or links, thought of soon after.

Thanks for fixing editing bug. I wondered what was going on.

Oops. Still don’t see it.

Could browser compatibility be a problem? I have Firebox for Macs.

My first thought reading this was that Highwayman might be responsible.

But then I remembered he doesn’t understanding enough html to do italics or quotes, let alone a malicious code injection, let alone say anything rational on city planning. So… probably not him.

7. the highwayman says:

Though Matt, you & O’Toole are the malicious types.

Also I am well aware of your rationale about city planning favoring automobiles & selling petroleum before the needs people in general.

8. Frank says:

Idiocy demonstrated in html coding attempt in #7. Use the appropriate Mozilla ignore ap. ‘Nuff said.

That was my first thought too. But you’re right; he’s got a room temperature IQ with nothing to spare for something of this intellectual magnitude.

11. mattb02 says:

Wow, Highwayman – if it were anybody else I’d think they were being ironic. Wow you are good.

Can the antiplanner provide me with some data regarding zoning across the United States. And data regarding housings, rail, transit, energy efficiency and smart growth absurdities. Theres a website called streetsblog. Ive contributed a little of the antiplanners data and comments and a few youtube videos regarding randal o’toole. But keep getting bitchslapped by some transit lover calling Randal a fraud. heres a few…

13. LazyReader,

You can find some data on zoning across the U.S. from several sources.

The Brookings Foundation published a report on land-use regulation among the 50 largest urban areas in their report.

Researchers at Wharton’s put together a database of land-use regulations for 10,000 cities. You can download this database from ADC.

An economist named Theo Eicher analyzed these regulations in 250 cities and compared them with housing prices, finding that more regulation makes housing less affordable. You can download his paper from ADC.

You can find my own reports on transit and smart growth by clicking on “Cato,” “American Dream Coalition,” and “Thoreau Institute” in the Antiplanner header (or, if you are using the Plain or OpenAir themes, look for them on the right under “Pages”).

14. LazyReader says:

Not just zoning but parking and urban planning, transit, energy efficiency among other things.

I wonder why Randal didn’t bother to link to his post about the paper…I wonder…I wonnnnndrrrrr…..

Someone told me….”the operators of the bullet train operators in Japan, Germany, and France are profitable. Check their websites, financial statements, and so on. In Japan this includes commuter rail – and the operators are almost always privatized. In Germany and France, it includes only intercity rail – but German commuter rail receives far less money in subsidy than US transit, because of greater efficiencies” is any of this true?

17. LazyReader says:

Also, say I wanted to travel from Baltimore to New York, which is cheaper…..a roundtrip ride on the Acela or roundtrip flight on a plane. Or is it cheaper to take Mega-bus and renting a car when I’m in New York a for few days.

18. LazyReader says:

I also wonder if the Antiplanner says about parking. This article…

Can I get some insight.

LR has trotted out several canards that are laughable, yet appears to earnstly offer and defend them: everyone, all the time, must have the option of driving home a La Z Boy, Houston doesn’t have zoning, Bubble was created by anti-sprawl policies…sheesh, it’s a veritable alphabet soup of debunked talking points! Let me go out to the garden to get some cabbage and carrots to flavor this tepid offering.

Does Dan get rock hard when he reads about the latest “smart growth” lunacy from Oregon?

I’ve contributed a little of the antiplanners data and comments and a few youtube videos regarding randal o’toole. But keep getting bitchslapped by some transit lover calling Randal a fraud.

THWM: Well if you’re buying a kitchen fridge, you’re not bringing it home on top of your Toyota Highlander! Sheesh.

Automobiles and public transit are not either the be all and end all urban transportation, though they are vital components.

That’s why Randal O’Toole is a fraud.

22. Scott says:

Dan,
Just claiming that something is debunked, makes it so, huh?
All kinds of policies, for high density, that add extra cost & restrict supply (further raising land prices), are supposed to be ignored?

Clear data, that shows higher housing prices in restrictive areas (West Coast, the NE), are irrelevant?

Strange that you live on the edge of the Denver area (foothills), with a yard. Typical hypocritical leftist who avoids reality & keeps personal beliefs, based upon owns wants/goals, regardless of contrary evidence.

23. the highwayman says:

Scott, this is one of rare times that I’ll kind of agree with you.

Dan there are houses in inner suburbs with yards that are walkable to stores, transit & etc.

I live in a house with a yard, but I don’t even own a car!

24. metrosucks says:

Scott, this is one of rare times that I’ll kind of agree with you.

So if you are disagreeing with Dan, that means you are disagreeing with one of the voices in your head. Nice.
