Kansas City voters rejected a plan to build an extensive streetcar system. The city already has plans to build a short “starter” line, and the mayor wanted to build more. But voters agreed that buses were cheaper and more sensible. This is the ninth time Kansas City voters have rejected rail transit.

Why?
It could be because for the last few decades Kansas City was ground zero for incredibly wasteful federal desegregation efforts. It almost bankrupted the City with no positive results other than (a) a few white children came to KC schools at the cost of millions per child-while droves of others left the system; (2) an inner city school was given an Olympic sized pool while students could neither read nor write; (3) school board members and political friends used the federal funds as their own piggybank – robbing from the students they claimed to be helping..
After that disaster, which is not yet finished, Kansas City voters ( not the politicians) will not likely approve any boondoggles for generations to come.
The streetcar industry should spend its lobbying funds elsewhere.
