Here in San Francisco, I noticed that Muni (the local and heavily subsidized public transit agency) is offering free service on New Year’s Eve. What a waste of taxpayer dollars. It would be cheaper (and make more sense) if we paid for free gas and parking for all drivers for the entire night, but that makes too much sense for the socialist regime that rules the city.
Happy holidays from Seattle!

Frank,
especially as regards light rail (not the source of the stabbing in this case, but many assaults do occur on rail vs bus), the agencies involved have decided that enforcing fares rigorously, which would probably clear up some, but not all, of this thuggery, is not as important as keeping their ridership numbers inflated. This is why fare inspectors are almost never found on either Sound Transit or MAX. I suppose they have decided that a few stabbings and shootings a week is a fair price (pun intended) to keep those ridership numbers up and make the big bad transit agency look important to the community. In addition, giving out free bus passes to the welfare degenerates probably doesn’t help the situation.
What are your thoughts on this Frank?

The Victoria Transport Policy Institute is a think tank seeking to improve transportation planning and transportation policy. The institute is and independent research organization dedicated to developing innovative and practical solutions to transportation problems.[1] It is headed by Todd Litman, and it is located in Victoria, British Columbia. It often comments on American transportation policies.[2][3][4] The Victoria Transport Policy Institute generally favors public transportation and alternatives to driving.
Of course, none of this has any bearing at all on his “interpretation” of the data. And bear in mind with self-driving cars, and even before that, with the new automated safety features coming out, auto deaths are only going down. The more rail and buses you put out on city streets, the more pedestrians get mowed down (especially light rail). Mr. Litman conveniently decides to ignore that.
